There are tremendous benefits, both mental and physical, to getting even a small amount of physical activity each day. All activity is good for you (and will burn calories), but it is worth noting that you do not have to be an athlete to be active. Regular activities such as mowing the grass and playing football with the children all count towards keeping fit.
The amount of calories expended during exercise varies according to your gender and weight. Because of their greater muscle mass, men burn more calories than women while doing the same activity; and the heavier you are, the more calories you will burn. Conversely, when you lose weight your calorie requirements decrease, even if you continue with the same level of physical activity.
